A reference for designers and marketers who need a quick, honest answer to “can I use this for that?”
How we check
- We read each rights holder's own licence pages: 18 sources, the same 15 questions each.
- Every answer quotes the exact clause it's based on, with a link and the date we checked.
- If the pages don't answer a question directly, we say “Unclear” rather than guess. If a page blocks automated reading, we mark it “Needs manual check” until it's verified by hand.
- Font data for 150 Google Fonts families comes from the licence and metadata files in the public google/fonts repository.
- Snapshots of every quoted page are compared weekly; changes appear on the changelog.

Lance is a graphic designer and marketer based in New Zealand, and License Ledger's design reviewer. He checks every question and summary against the licensing calls designers make on real client jobs, from logos and merch to social campaigns, so the answers are useful in practice. He isn't a lawyer, and nothing on this site is legal advice.
